Hi, My name is Stella. I would like to know how to start a food pantry in my church. Is there some type of regulation or permit needed? I’ve done some research, seems to me that there isn’t. Thank you in advance.

  Stella, we started this food pantry quite a few years ago. I don’t remember whether we needed a permit to do so. Plus, things may have changed by now. I would suggest that you contact Feeding Westchester (www.feedingwestchester.org), which is the umbrella organization over most of the pantries and soup kitchens in Westchester. They should have advice for you. Good luck, and I’m glad you’re doing this.
