Good afternoon, everybody – yesterday in the morning we served 33 families, including 65 adults, 41 children and 13 seniors for a total of 111 people. Then in the evening we served another 13 families with 31 adults, 25 children and 2 seniors, which came to 50 more people. This brought us to a total of 46 families with 96 adults, 66 children and 15 seniors for a total of 161 people served yesterday. For the month of July we averaged 32 families a week and 114 people served.
A group of us will be running in Feeding Westchester’s annual 5K on Sunday, September 22. It’s a fundraiser for Feeding Westchester, which provides food to us at a low cost. So far there are five of us running (or walking). Would anybody on this list like to join us? Just let me know. Last year we won an award for fundraising.
Marc and I will be representing the pantry at the Irvington Farmers’ Market at their community table this Sunday. It’s open from 9:30 until 1:30, and it’s run by the people who run the Hastings Farmers’ Market. They sell not only beautiful produce but meats, seafood, sweets, etc. Plus there are a couple of trucks. There’s also live music and tables and chairs so that you can listen to music while you sit and eat. The last couple of years the shoppers have been generous to the pantry, plus it’s a lot of fun. Hope to see some of you there.
A million thanks to Cabrini of Westchester for doing a food drive for us in honor of Mother Cabrini’s birthday. They’ll be delivering the food to us this Wednesday, and we can really use it! People on this list can donate to us too – either financially (using the PayPal function on our website (www.dobbsferrypantry.org) or by leaving food or diapers for us in the kitchen at South Church at 343 Broadway in Dobbs Ferry. If you come on a Wednesday morning you’ll meet us.
South Church is working on creating a sanctuary apartment upstairs at the church for undocumented immigrants who are trying to arrange for permanent residency but must avoid being seized by ICE while they work with their lawyers. We need money because there has to be a bathroom installed up there. If anybody would like to donate, go to the GoFundMe page on Facebook or send a check to South Presbyterian Church with “Sanctuary” in the memo line.
We need some strong people to help us when we get a delivery from Feeding Westchester on some Mondays. Is there anybody out there who’s strong of arm and could help on a Monday morning? Let us know.
