April 2024

Enough already!

Wicked weather for walking and for waiting. Winter, chiefly in the form of near-freezing rain and strong winds, has so far refused to make way for spring. Those clients who typically begin lining up at 8:00 a.m. every Wednesday for the 10:30 a.m. opening of the food pantry know better than I do what that feels like.

Each person on line represents one family or individual in need of food. The people of the Rivertowns – individuals and families along with religious, charitable, social and educational institutions – have been the lifeline of money and food donations that have kept the pantry going for 13 years through all manner of challenges, including the pandemic, and the explosive energy and food inflation spiral.

Ardsley Schools Score Big with Birthday in a Bag
The pantry’s community outreach coordinator, Kristy Fitzgerald, is always on the lookout for new ways for individuals and organizations to contribute something out of the ordinary to our clients. In March, the students at Ardsley’s public schools did just that with their Birthday In a Bag concept, a way to provide treats and party supplies for children celebrating a birthday.

Kristy Fitzgerald , above left, is shown with Lynna Kane and Regina Dosso from the Ardsley schools. They offered our clients bags filled with treats that make a child’s birthday special.

And thank you, Bombas, for donating 1,000 pairs of socks for our clients. They appreciate your warm and fuzzy generosity.

Bundles Of Joy NY

Jake, a shipping volunteer at Bundles of Joy NY, is shown here with two of the nonprofit’s executives, Amanda Fitzgerald and Sarah Noyes.

The food pantry recently received a shipment of badly needed diapers and wipes from Bundles of Joy NY, which is located in Bronxville. Diapers are expensive, and our clients thank you! This nonprofit helps New York’s most vulnerable, providing mothers and babies with essentials, and has expanded to also serve children and teens.
