October 2025

On Wednesday mornings, the Dobbs Ferry Food Pantry opens its door to our friends and neighbors on the grounds of South Presbyterian Church. On these Wednesday mornings,  the ambience is delightful, similar to a gathering of friends all warmly greeting each other and catching up on the latest news. A member of our pantry has said “I enjoy coming here and it’s  a pleasure to see smiling faces.” Volunteers enjoy their mornings just as much! Our goal is to project an attitude of welcome and respect to all and when a person expresses this in his/her own words, it makes our spirits soar! Here are some of our trusty volunteers on Wednesday mornings:

This month, the weather has been absolutely spectacular, as has the generosity of our community. Below are some of the highlights:

Feeding Westcher, an organization committed to feeding nutritious meals to those in need, together with Stop and Shop, Telemundo and NBC sponsored a food drive at Stop and Shop stores throughout the county. The Dobbs Food Pantry received over 30 boxes of food and $300 in cash donations. One contributor came out of the store with a receipt of$87 and a large bag of groceries. Another contributor gave a generous cash donation while telling us, “I have been at both ends of the spectrum. I know what it is like to need food.” Thank you to all that made this day a success!

Marvin Bowen and Faye Christie dropped off a large donation on behalf of the Name of Christ Assemblies of the First Born located in White Plains. The donation consisted of children’s shoes, children’s rainboots, slippers, and socks with a promise of “more to come!”

Kirsten Gallagher and her daughter Veronica from Cadette Troop 1542 donated 150 boxes of GirlScout Cookies. Thank you so very much!

For over 25 years, the Irvington Presbyterian Church has hosted the CROP Hunger Walk. It is guided by the simple belief that no one in this world should be hungry. Shown here is Melissa Brown, a deacon at Irvington Presbyterian handing Donna Assumma, co-director of the Dobbs Ferry Food Pantry, a check from some of the proceeds from the Hunger Walk. If anyone would like to help organize next year’s Hunger Walk, please reach out to us.

Thank you to Natalie Werner from Woodlands Temple in White Plains for her donation of much needed diapers. Her continued support is much appreciated!

Karen from Scarsdale Woman’s Club stopping by on a Wednesday contributing much needed items.

On a beautiful Sunday afternoon, the band Greetings from Anywhere performed at South Presbyterian Church in support of the Food Pantry. They had the audience dancing in the pews. A great time was had by all!

Greetings from Anywhere band members: Andrew Schriever (guitar and banjo), Scott Bernstein (guitar), Sheila Noonan-Gorham (guitar and lead vocals), Adam Friedman (bass) and Doug Shneider (drums).

Tango Bravo Hotel also performed a 30 minute opening act with Stanley Legan (bass) and Max Shneider (guitar and lead vocal).

We are grateful for all the support the Food Pantry has received. With your help, we are feeding members of our community while providing them with a glimmer of hope.
